SEEING THE BIGGER PICTURE

While the focus this week was on the impeachment hearings and the latest entrants into the Democratic field, the hatred, the vitriol and outright barbaric violence from the left continues unabated. If you’re wondering how we got to this point, please take a moment to read this brief article from 2017. It offers great insight into what we’re seeing today.

The shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise at a baseball game seemed to be the spark that brought into the open the left’s irrational hatred that had been partially veiled for years. This is a new level of hatred, and it’s probably not going away unless there are serious consequences (like massive voter rebellion against those fomenting the hatred and instigating the violence, which includes most of those on the left).

Christians have been exhorted to be vigilant and aware of what’s going on around us. What’s going on is a lot of hatred. How should we respond? “Blessed are you when men cast insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me (Jesus). Rejoice and be glad for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Matt. 5: 11-12).

When the heat is on, rejoicing is not what we feel like doing, but we are not to be guided by our feelings, but by the truth. What is the truth? The truth is that our God is still at work despite the hatred and violence. He is still drawing people to Himself in record numbers. The more the world system fails, the more people are drawn to Christ. This is where our attention should be-on those who are suffering the most and in need of a Savior.

For followers of Christ, our destiny is secure, as is our inheritance in Christ. Our suffering on earth is nothing compared to the joy that awaits us. The truth is that most of us haven’t even begun to suffer for the name of Christ. Until those days come, we must be about our Master’s business, fighting the good fight, protecting our families from the hatred that is or will be coming against us, and seizing ever opportunity to share the good news of the gospel. This is why we’re here.
