SINCE YOU ASKED
Recently, a brave Hispanic statesman born in Madrid, Spain spoke to the world on behalf of the Jewish state. The words of former Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar made it into a published article in the British newspaper, The Times, in June of 2010. The headlines read: “If Israel Goes Down, We All Go down.” “Israel,” he said, is our first line of defense in a turbulent region and if something should ever happen to her, God forbid, it would affect the entire world!” If Israel’s enemies can defeat Israel, they will believe they can defeat anyone.
 
The truth of the matter is that for us in America, Israel’s strength is our strength. Her weakness is our weakness. The strength of the West is due to our Judeo-Christian roots. The spiritual blessings Christians enjoy are the result of being (as wild olive branches) grafted in among the natural branches (Israel), partaking of the rich root of the olive tree (Romans 11:17).  Spiritually speaking then, if the tree falls, so will the branches.

AS I SEE IT
Fortunately, we know how things end. We’ve read the end of the book. We don’t, however, know all the details that lead to this end. It’s difficult to say with certainty whether certain prophetic accounts, especially regarding Gog and Magog, are actually happening, or whether we’re viewing mere preludes to the final drama, which will take place in the future. We do know that in the end, Israel will stand alone against the armies of the world (Zechariah 12:3). When Israel’s back it to the wall, and her only hope is that the long-awaited Messiah will reveal himself, Jesus Christ, the one whom they pierced, will indeed show up. At His Second Coming, His nail-scared hands and feet will be visible. Yet, even then, the Jewish people will recognize Him only because the God of Israel will have poured out on them the Spirit of grace and supplication that allows them to do so (Zech. 12:10). My point is that the keeper of His own olive tree will remain faithful to the end, despite the continued rejection by those whom He had called.
 
Just as God will remain faithful in allowing His children to recognize and receive the very Messiah they had rejected, so Jesus Christ will faithfully build His true Church from those who loved what He loved, especially Israel. I hope this includes you.
