In exchange for his release, Israel would be forced to release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Not only this, but Israel will be forced to freeze settlements. This week, Fatah party spokesman Ahmad Assaf bragged about the PA’s threat to apply for membership in the International Criminal Court as a “weapon” against Israel. “We’ve obtained the release of the prisoners, we blackmailed [Israel], that is, in quotation marks, and we’ve taken important positions because we have a card that we’re waving around,” Assaf said.
