Letting Jesus Pray
Several of the articles this week deal with National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster. If everything in these reports is true, we have a real problem here. The Soros connection is not just troubling. It is cause for great alarm. The battle to bring down our President extends to his most trusted advisors. The Deep State appears to be deeper than anyone imagined. Just when one leaker has been eliminated, another emerges. The enemy has operatives everywhere including a sizable block of the President’s own party.
Just when we saw a light at the end of the tunnel with Donald Trump’s unexpected election, that light appears to be an oncoming train. Considering the recent trajectory of politics in America, this shouldn’t surprise us. The Liberals, Leftists and Loonies have pulled out all the stops in a relentless assault on our President. They are determined to keep up the attack until he is removed from office.
As I have said often, none of this should surprise us. All that we’re seeing should drive us to our knees so we can tap into the unlimited power of our Lord through our submission, obedience, and fervent prayer with fasting. We should be praying His will (for our nation) into existence. The more we’re connected to God, the better we’ll understand Him and His ways-how He works and how He thinks.
This is no easy task, and we don’t want to waste our prayers on requests that run counter to His will. We want to take advantage of anything that will assure that our will and His are in alignment. In the August 8 devotional from My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers asks the question, “Is the Son of God praying in me or am I dictating to Him.” He had been making the case that if Christ is living in us, and since He is perfectly related to the Father, why not let Him pray regarding the matter at hand?
Let this sink in. For most of us, this is a revolutionary concept. Our idea of prayer is all about us talking to our Heavenly Father. But if Christ truly dwells within us, aren’t we seriously limiting our effectiveness by not allowing Christ to pray for us, especially since His prayers always align with the Father’s will?
It’s a shame that this seems so radical. It’s a natural consequence of Galatians 2:20. We no longer live. It’s Christ who has taken up residence in His new temple (our human body). This has been God’s plan for us all along. The only way we can have complete and perfect communion with God is if it is Christ in us who is doing the communing.
So, how do we learn to let Christ do the praying? Ask Him. Allow the Holy Spirit to place Christ’s thoughts on our minds. Ask Him to reveal His heart on the matter. It’s putting a new spin on trying to see through God’s eyes. In this case we’re allowing Christ to pray His Father will into existence as we submit our will to His, and as we ignore all our personal desires and let Christ have His way in us.
The same devotional message also includes this question: Have you reached such an intimacy with God that the Lord Jesus Christ’s life of prayer is the only explanation of your life of prayer? This is God’s goal for our prayer lives. It should guide our prayers for our nation and everything else. How did Jesus pray while He walked the earth? Expect Him to pray in the same way now. His priorities will be the same. I believe this will revolutionize our prayer lives and will bring the powers of heaven to our nation’s problems.
