Seeing Through God’s Eyes

running out of gas, the article on “Islamic Germany” summarizes the advance of Islam in Europe, Jews are arguing over praying rights at the Western Wall, satanic and hate groups are getting bolder, ISIS continues to shock us with its barbaric tactics, Islamic violence in America is increasing at a slow, but frighteningly steady pace, and the push for socialized medicine in the U.S. continues despite its horrible track record in Europe.
If we are to remain calm in the middle of the storm that surround us, we must learn to see things from God’s perspective. This goes beyond recognizing His sovereignty over everything. It starts on a personal scale by looking at every situation in which we find ourselves through His eyes. His word tells us that He is in everything that happens to us. He will never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5), and will cause all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Rom. 8:28).
Assuming that we meet these criteria, we can rest in the fact that everything He has allowed to happen to us is part of His continuing efforts to conform us to the image of His son. From our perspective, the difficulties we face seem like disruptive annoyances that interfere with our plans. God, however, has a much larger agenda. He is working something into or out of our lives. He is purifying and refining us. He is preparing us for what is to come.
This isn’t just an interesting exercise. God desires that we be so familiar with His ways and His purposes that we can see what He is doing in our lives by regularly seeing through His eyes. He desperately wants us to get our focus off ourselves and onto Him and others (Phil. 2:3). He has promised to take care of our needs if we focus on Him and His kingdom (Mt. 6:33).
Our model, of course, is Christ. His life was entirely devoted to His Father and to those around Him. He was God, but He willingly emptied Himself of His own personal desires, and assumed the role of a bond-servant (Phil. 2:6-7). He was entirely kingdom-focused. He saw everything from His Father’s perspective. He understood the bigger picture.
The same principle applies to world events. God is in everything. The more familiar we are with His Word and with biblical prophecy, the more we can see how the pieces are fitting together. The
Word must be our only plumb line. We must stay focused on what is most important to God and what He has promised to do. Then, seeing through His eyes becomes a little easier.
We know that He is setting the stage for the destruction of His enemies, even when they seem to have the upper hand. We also know that Christ is purifying and preparing His Church to be His bride, and is preparing the Jewish people so they will ultimately recognize Him as Yeshua, their Messiah (Zech. 12:10). Every world event can be fitted into this three-part framework. We can only place them correctly if we have learned to see everything through God’s eyes.
