Pre-Election Special
IT’S WORTH CONSIDERING
I recently came across a passage in the Psalms that I believe is directly applicable to our elections tomorrow.

Let the godly ones exult in glory. Let them sing for joy on their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand, to execute vengeance on the nations, and punishment on the peoples; to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; to execute on them the judgment written; this is an honor for all His godly ones. Praise the Lord! (Psalm 149: 5-9)

While some say this is a reference to the power believers will have in the Millennial Kingdom, I believe this is an Old Testament application of the principle of binding and loosing as expressed in Matthew 18:18:

“Truly I say to you, whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Believers are given the authority and the privilege to “bind and loose” (in Jesus’ name). As I understand the concept, there are things God has already decided to bind and loose, but He will not implement those decisions without our participation. It is part of our “apprenticeship program” in preparation for ruling and reigning with Christ in the Millennial Kingdom. The key to being successful in the venture is to know God’s will in the matter so we will have His full support.

IT’S NEWS TO ME
Read the passage from Psalm 149 again. Israel had and has many nations and many kings that needed to be “bound.” So do we, and the “king” that needs to be “bound” the most is our own. If the judgment on them and him is written, then it is already decided by God. We are given the task of doing the binding (and loosing). In order to know we are acting within God’s will, we must choose our words carefully and be praying against things we know God hates-things like lying, deceiving, distorting, promoting what God hates, and hating what God loves. Since we are fighting a spiritual battle here, we must first make sure we have our spiritual armor on (Ephesians 6:13-18) and have no unconfessed sins. Then, we can be about the business of binding the spirits of deception, distortion, confusion, etc. and loosing the voters from the effects of these spirits.

Remember, the effective prayer of one righteous individual can have amazing results (James 5:16). I believe the election will be won or lost not in the voting booths but on the knees of the saints.
